A British Airways passenger claims he was accused of nicking an iPhone because he was “the only black man on the plane”.

Jonathan Vardon claims he was singled out by other travellers on his flight from Gatwick to Barcelona.

When he landed he was held at gunpoint by Spanish police and he and a couple of mates were forced into a “degrading search”.

Jonathan Vardon, 28, says he was singled out because of the colour of his skin after an iPhone went missing on a BA flight to Barcelona

A fellow flyer who had left their phone in the loo accused the 26-year-old Londoner of taking it when it went missing.

Apple store in worker Jonathon told The Mirror: “It felt like other passengers singled me out because I was the only black man on the plane. It was mortifying.”

His partner Drew Clauson, 58, branded the incident “outrageous”.

The flight was met in Barcelona by seven police officers with machine guns.

When nothing was found the group was released.

A spokesman for British Airways said: “The allegation of theft was made by one of our customers and at their request we reported it to the police so that it could be dealt with in the correct manner.”
