An American Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport Wednesday afternoon due to a hazardous material situation.
An American Airlines crew member was taken to the hospital after a flight returned to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport due to an odor in the cabin.
NBC Charlotte was told the odor was an “electrical odor” that caused the flight to return to Charlotte Douglas Wednesday afternoon.
The flight was American Airlines 1965 and was en route to Punta Cana. There were 183 passengers on board and 10 crew members.

Authorities said one crew member was taken to the hospital by emergency services. Six crew members were deemed okay after being checked out at the airport. Zero passengers were treated.
The flight took off at 11:43 a.m. ET and returned shortly after 1 p.m. According to Flightaware, the flight diverted at 12:16 p.m.
Another plane is scheduled to accommodate the traveling passengers.
